Carmel de Jager is a multidisciplinary artist; classical singer, composer, DJ, music producer, photographer, podcast host and radio host., and DJ under the alias Karmel Jäger.

Initially a classical singer, she studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and then at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, performing in Australia, the UK, Europe and the US, most notably with London Voices, Gabrieli Consort, St Martin’s Voices and The Song Company, alongside the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

As a session singer Carmel recorded regularly at AIR and Abbey Road Studios including for The Avengers, Star Wars, BBC’s Sherlock and World of Warcraft.

Moving back to Sydney, she moved into electronic music, DJing and producing. She has recently started playing vinyl DJ sets which she finds inspiring due to the tangible nature of working with records. As a producer, her music has found homes with labels across Germany, the UK and Australia, garnering airtime on Rinse FM, BBC Radio 1, FBI Radio and Tresor in Berlin.

During Covid, Carmel began exploring photography and now photographs DJs and club events with her photos being regularly published in QMag NSW, and recently for an article with the ABC. She started hosting her podcast, Living a Messy Life, in 2023 through which she has discussions with creatives about their journey working in the industry covering topics including burnout and mental health.

Recent projects include composing a school musical which she also conducted and choreographed, travelling to Victoria to conduct 100 Voices, a composition comprised of 6 female Australian composers, and she is about to embark on a mini tour of the UK and Europe, DJing a mix of hardcore jungle, breakbeat and techno.

Carmel is passionate about helping fellow creatives stay connected to their craft and love of their art whilst navigating the pressures of social media and the comparison game.
